I am fortunate to be currently working as an academic professional in the Center for Teaching and Learning at UGA. Upon graduation, I have several possible career goals:
- To work in an educational technology company as an instructional technologist, helping faculty to implement technology in a way that suits their specific institution.
- To continue working at a Center for Teaching and Learning as I am now, supporting faculty use of instructional technology, and supporting institution wide technology initiatives.
- To work in a leadership role in a Center for Teaching and Learning, where I can support institution wide technology initiatives and engage in scholarly research about learning technologies.
Position Examples:
-
Senior Instructional Technologist
- Description of the position: A Senior Instructional Technologist is responsible for making sure a school has a smooth and successful implementation and ongoing support needs are handled in a timely fashion. Implementation involves facilitating communication between new customers and support staff and engineers, answering implementation questions, providing administrators with training on administrative aspects of the system and occasional “train-the-trainer” webinars and faculty consultation (primarily via web conference and for needs beyond the basic “how-to” questions).
- Why I chose this: This is the position I will be starting in the summer of 2017. The position is a great opportunity for me continue supporting faculty use of technology and providing consultation on pedagogy and best practices.
- Assistant Director of Emerging Academic Technologies and Spaces
- Description of position: The Assistant Director for Emerging Academic Technologies and Spaces will contribute to the discovery and evaluation of emerging educational technologies and in the dissemination of this information through various outlets, such as faculty programs, consultations, and web resources.
- Why I chose this: This position incorporates many things that I am doing in my current position at the CTL, such as faculty programs and evaluating emerging educational technologies. I’d like to find a position that is a leadership position in a similar context to my current role.
- Educational Development Manager
- Description of position: This position will work with individual faculty to develop innovative approaches to sustain and promote excellence in educational programs and to make improvements in needed areas.
- Why I chose this: This position has responsibilities that sound incredibly interesting to me: developing workshops and programs; creating and maintaining teaching resources; contributing to the literature; working with a wide variety of people on campus: faculty, instructional technologists, administrators.
